Electric Bikes
E-bikes are bicycles equipped with a battery-powered motor that provides assistance when you pedal. Often referred to as ‘pedelecs’, the motor kicks in to give you an extra push, making it easier to climb hills and navigate challenging terrain without getting overly tired.
Three key components make this possible: the battery (which supplies power), the motor (which assists your pedalling), and the sensor (which detects when you’re pedalling and activates the motor). The e-bike’s display lets you monitor battery status, adjust assistance levels, and check your speed.
They offer the same riding experience as traditional bicycles but are a healthier, more environmentally friendly, and convenient mode of transport, making cycling accessible to a wider range of people.
The easiest way to explain would be through our e-bike buyer's guide - you can find it here.
Walk assist modes on e-bikes are legal in the UK, but can only operate without pedalling up to 6km/h (3.7mph). To go faster, the rider must pedal.
E-bikes may legally have a throttle that works without pedalling (up to 15.5 mph), as long as it has been type-approved.
However, we have been unable to find a single reliable supplier who can offer this, so it is often easier to think of full throttles as illegal for use on public roads in the UK.
Every electric bike is crafted with water resistance in mind, enabling you to comfortably ride in rainy conditions and navigate through puddles.
We do recommend consulting the manufacturer’s guidelines for precise information.
Refrain from using power washers when cleaning your bike.
Absolutely. All our e-bikes include a minimum 6-month manufacturer’s warranty. For detailed warranty information, please refer to the individual product pages.
For further information, please see our dedicated page.
The range depends on battery capacity, which is outlined in the specification tab on our product pages. Although variables such as terrain, rider weight, tyre pressure, and headwind can impact the actual distance achievable.
Even if you run out of charge, you can still ride it — the bike just operates like a conventional bicycle. It will feel slightly heavier due to the motor and battery.
Charging times generally take between 4 and 6 hours depending on the model.
Important: Even if a charger physically fits, using one from a different brand or model can damage the battery cells. Always use the charger that came with your e-bike.
Hub-drive e-bikes have the motor in the front or rear wheel. They offer a simpler, quieter, and more affordable system but may struggle on steep hills.
Mid-drive e-bikes place the motor at the pedals, using the bike’s gears for better hill climbing and a more natural ride, though they tend to cost a little more and need extra maintenance.

As of 2026, we accept:
- All major debit/credit cards (inc. Amex)
- Klarna
- PayPal
- Buyline (0% APR Finance)

We do not currently offer part-exchange sales unfortunately. We would recommend a local marketplace as the best place to sell your existing e-bike or trike.
Check the T&Cs in the footer of the email you received, as a small number of products may be excluded from the offer. Still having issues? Get in touch and we will investigate or issue another one.
If your card is being declined, we recommend contacting your bank. Please also check if your bank has sent you an authorisation text message — you may need to respond to it for your order to be processed successfully.
Note: The billing address must match the name and address to which the card is registered.
Delivery
We are registered in London, but ship from warehouses across the UK — predominantly from the Midlands and Sussex.
This depends on the brand, as we don’t keep all bikes in the same warehouse. However, we can organise demos for certain products. Please contact us with details of the product you are interested in to find out more.
We currently ship to the UK only. All orders to UK mainland over £200 come with free delivery.
If you are purchasing from the Highlands or non-UK mainland, please get in touch before placing your order as there may be a small brand-specific excess to pay.
A very small number of products may not be eligible for Northern Ireland shipping, so please get in touch with us before placing your order.
We don’t currently have an official click & collect service. Orders are delivered to the shipping address provided during checkout. In some cases (such as when a demo is booked), you can collect the e-bike on the day.
We also offer a white-glove assembly package for certain products — if available, this will be shown on the product page.
Most of our bikes arrive 95% assembled. You may need to attach the wheels, pedals, saddle, handlebars, or other minor parts — all very simple. If you need help, don’t hesitate to contact us.
Some brands are eligible for white-glove delivery. If available for your bike, it will be shown on the product page.

Safety & Legal
Yes, e-bikes are legal.
Electrically assisted pedal cycles (EAPCs) are distinct from motorbikes under UK law. Anyone over 14 can ride them — no licence, insurance, MOT, or tax is required. They can be ridden wherever standard bicycles are permitted.
For further information and to understand what qualifies as an EAPC, please read our legal guide.
If your bike has a motor under 250W, insurance is not legally required. However, we strongly recommend it to protect against theft and accidental damage.
We have partnered with Cycler who provide comprehensive insurance for all EAPCs, and offer a free 14-day policy for Bike Yard Online customers. You can see our dedicated insurance page here.
There is no law mandating helmet use, but we highly encourage wearing one to minimise the risk of injury.
