Once the initial service has been completed, refer to the manufacturer’s guidelines for recommended maintenance timing, which is often around every 500 miles.

We recommend a 30-day (after approximately 100 miles) first service with a bike mechanic, who can show you how to use the gears, charge the battery, and cover basic maintenance. This keeps your bike running smoothly between services.
Why is a 100-mile service necessary?
If the 30-day (100-mile) service is skipped, more difficult-to-fix issues may arise further down the line. This first service is important because:
- Cables and bolts may settle or stretch slightly as the bike is ridden, requiring tightening.
- Brakes and gears may need minor readjustments once components bed in.
- Spokes and wheel tension might need checking to ensure even balance.

How frequently should you service an electric bike?

Checking tyre pressures is also important; under-inflated tyres can waste energy and be dangerous, while over-inflation affects comfort. Maintain the recommended pressure and adjust based on your riding conditions.

However, despite these reinforcements, it’s important to regularly check your bike for loose bolts, damaged parts, and excessive wear. Keeping an eye on your chain and other components can prevent further damage, as worn parts can affect the entire system. Regular maintenance will help you spot issues before they escalate.
How should you wash an electric bike?
Cleaning your e-bike properly is crucial for maintaining its efficiency and lifespan. While motors and batteries are sealed, avoid using a high-pressure jet wash, as it can force water through seals. Instead, use a bucket of water or a low-pressure hose, a brush, and a bike-specific cleaner. Be sure to keep the bike upright and turn off the system before cleaning. Never wash an e-bike upside down!
After washing, dry the bike with a clean cloth, avoiding the disc brakes. Check the charging ports for dirt and clean them gently with a dry brush. It’s also a good idea to occasionally clean battery contacts and the speed sensor magnet for optimal performance.

How should you store and charge the battery?
Though e-bike batteries are sealed, there are still several ways to keep them in excellent condition. Lithium-ion batteries naturally lose capacity over time due to a process called self-discharge, but this is normal.
When you regularly disconnect your battery, use a damp cloth to clean it and a dry brush to remove dirt from the connections. Occasionally clean and lightly grease the battery contacts, but avoid using high-pressure water.
To maximise battery life, take good care of it by storing it properly and keeping it charged. Regular maintenance and proper handling will help prolong its lifespan.

Use the correct charger!
Charge your e-bike battery at room temperature in a dry area. To extend its lifespan, avoid leaving it fully charged or fully discharged for long periods. If not using the bike for a while, disconnect the battery but top it up periodically, maintaining a charge of around 60 percent for long-term storage.
Extreme temperatures can damage the battery, so store it in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. In winter, especially when it’s below 0°C, charge and store the battery indoors and only insert it before riding.
Remember to bring the key if you’re taking the bike to a shop for service. Always use the correct charger for your e-bike, as using the wrong one can damage the battery, even if it looks the same.
Important: Even if a charger physically fits, using one from a different brand or model can damage the battery cells. Always use the charger that came with your e-bike.
Repairs & Waterproofing

E-bikes are water-resistant, not waterproof. While e-bike motors and batteries are sealed, it’s still possible for water to get in without proper care. Avoid using a jet wash or fully submerging the bike to prevent damage.
The motor is factory-sealed and should never be taken apart for repairs. If there’s an issue, visit a reputable dealer. Some insurance policies even cover battery damage.
During a service, a good bike shop or mechanic will clean the motor, check diagnostics, and update service information, ensuring no error codes are present and keeping your bike in top condition.

Extending the range of your e-bike’s battery
To extend your e-bike battery range, focus on riding efficiently. Keep your cadence above 50 rpm, reduce unnecessary load, and maintain correct tyre pressure to minimise strain on the battery. Smooth riding with less braking also helps preserve charge.
Some e-bike displays show real-time battery consumption, making it easier to adjust your riding style. Be aware that cold weather can reduce battery performance, so range may be lower in winter conditions.
It is also best to avoid using the highest pedal assist setting all the time. Lower PAS levels place less demand on the battery and can significantly increase range, especially on flat terrain or when cruising at a steady pace.
Tip: On flat terrain, try dropping to a lower pedal assist level. You'll barely notice the difference in effort, but your battery range can improve significantly.
Keeping your software up-to-date
Some e-bike manufacturers regularly release software and app updates, with a few providing them more frequently than others. Many proprietary apps or built-in displays not only log ride statistics but also allow you to customise your bike’s performance, such as adjusting power settings for reduced battery usage. Lowering the output can extend battery life, although it may require more effort to tackle hills.
E-bike apps often provide system health updates, including service intervals, and you can check for firmware updates through connected apps or the manufacturer’s website. Some brands may recommend visiting an authorised dealership for updates. These firmware updates can enhance torque, extend battery life, or offer other improvements, making it beneficial to check for any available updates. E-bikes may also display error codes that prevent the motor from engaging, but these issues can typically be resolved by a dealership.
