Hub motor vs mid-drive: which should you choose?

Hub motors push the wheel directly: quiet, sealed, low-maintenance, and ideal for flat to rolling terrain. Mid-drive (crank) motors send power through the chain and gears, giving more torque on steep climbs but adding wear, complexity, and cost. Unless you ride somewhere genuinely mountainous, a hub motor is more than enough for British roads, lanes, and paths.
