Product Add-Ons & Accessories

The Eskuta SX-250 Series 4 is a UK road legal, moped style electric bike built with motorcycle grade components: a 250W brushless rear hub motor, a removable 48V 26Ah battery for 40-50 miles per charge, full LED lighting, indicators, mirrors, an alarm, immobiliser and keyless go, all fitted as standard. As an EAPC it assists up to 15.5mph and needs no licence, road tax or insurance, so anyone aged 14 or over can ride it.

Description

Eskuta SX-250 Series 4 - The Moped Style E-Bike That Needs No Licence

The SX-250 Series 4 looks and feels like a small motorcycle but is legally a pedal cycle. Its 250W brushless rear hub motor assists only while you pedal and cuts out at 15.5mph, which makes it a UK EAPC: no driving licence, no road tax, no compulsory insurance and no DVLA registration. Anyone aged 14 or over can ride it, and it is allowed anywhere a bicycle is, including cycle lanes and bus lanes.

Underneath the moped styling is a properly specified electric bike. A removable 48V 26Ah (1,248Wh) lithium-ion battery in a lockable housing gives 40-50 miles per charge, recharges in 6-7 hours on or off the bike (about 2 hours from 30%) and costs roughly 17p to fill off-peak. Front and rear disc brakes, hydraulic telescopic forks with self-adjusting gas-spring rear shocks, 18 inch tubeless tyres and a 120kg load rating make it stable and comfortable for everyday riding, and a 3.7mph walk-assist mode helps when you are pushing it.

Everything you would expect from a motorcycle is fitted as standard: a full LCD display, LED headlamp with full beam and daytime running light, indicators, brake light, mirrors, a tech bar across the handlebars, an alarm, immobiliser and keyless go with two keys, a lockable glove box, centre and side stands and an IP65 weather rating. The phone holder for the tech bar is sold separately.

Which SX-250 kit is right for you?

All four kits share the same bike, motor, battery, brakes, electrics and tech bar. The only difference is what is fitted on the back:

  • Classic - the SX-250 as standard, with mounting points ready for a rear carrier or pod later.
  • Tourer - adds a 22 litre pod, colour matched to the bike, on a rear carrier with an integrated rear light lens and lock barrel.
  • Explorer - adds a 52 litre lockable pod on a rear carrier for bigger loads.
  • Cargo - adds a 108 litre cargo box with built in indicators and brake light on a sliding aluminium rear carrier, built for deliveries.

Pick your kit and colour above - the photo and the included items list update to match your choice. All four kits are available in eight colours.

Built to order, delivered white glove

Every SX-250 is built to order, checked and set up before it leaves, and delivered with Eskuta's white-glove service: a personal handover and demonstration at your door, typically within two weeks of ordering. It comes with a 12 month / 8,000 km (4,971 mile) warranty, which can be extended to 24 months, and it is eligible for Cycle to Work schemes.

Compare the kits

Yes, it really is an e-bike.

Three numbers put the SX-250 on the right side of UK e-bike law.

  • 0driving licence, CBT or test needed.
  • 15.5mph assisted top speed.
  • 3.7mph walk assist for pushing it.

Meet those three and UK law classes the SX-250 as an Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle, the same as any other bicycle. That means no driving licence, no road tax, no MOT and no compulsory insurance, and every cycle lane and bus lane is open to you from the day it arrives.

Get on and go

No test to book, no L plates and no lessons. If you are 14 or over you can ride the SX-250 today. As a fully compliant EAPC it is road legal across the UK with no driving licence, CBT, road tax, MOT or compulsory insurance. Cover for theft and damage is there if you want it, but it is optional.

Skip the petrol station

No fuel stops, season tickets or renewal letters. Charge overnight from an ordinary socket and start every day with 40-50 miles in the battery. Five thousand miles a year costs around £19 in electricity, and that is the whole bill - no road tax, no insurance premium and no MOT. The same year in a petrol car is closer to £1,700.

Feel safe in traffic

You sit tall, drivers see you and the mirrors show you what is behind. Riding in traffic feels calm rather than brave, thanks to components built to EN 15194, motorcycle style disc brakes and an alarm and immobiliser fitted as standard.

Eskuta SX-250 questions, answered

Straight answers on licences, range, kits, delivery and warranty for the Eskuta SX-250 Series 4.

Do I need a driving licence, insurance or road tax for the Eskuta SX-250?

No. The Eskuta SX-250 Series 4 is a UK legal Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle (EAPC): its 250W motor only assists while you pedal and stops helping at 15.5mph, so the law treats it as a bicycle. That means no driving licence, no CBT, no road tax, no MOT and no compulsory insurance. Anyone aged 14 or over can ride it, including in cycle lanes and bus lanes.

How far will the Eskuta SX-250 go on one charge?

Up to 40 to 50 miles from the removable 48V 26Ah (1,248Wh) lithium-ion battery, depending on rider weight, terrain, assist level and temperature. A full charge from a normal 3-pin socket takes 6 to 7 hours, or about 2 hours from 30%, and costs roughly 17p off-peak. The battery can be charged on the bike or lifted out and charged indoors.

What is the difference between the Classic, Tourer, Explorer and Cargo kits?

All four kits are the same bike underneath, with the same motor, battery, brakes, lighting, security and tech bar. The Classic is the SX-250 as standard with mounting points for a carrier. The Tourer adds a 22 litre colour matched pod on a rear carrier, the Explorer adds a 52 litre lockable pod, and the Cargo adds a 108 litre cargo box with built in indicators and brake light on a sliding aluminium carrier. Use the Choose Your Ride buttons at the top of the page to compare photos and prices.

How fast does the Eskuta SX-250 go, and does it have a throttle?

Assistance is limited to 15.5mph (25 km/h), the UK EAPC limit, and the motor only works while the pedals are turning, so there is no throttle. A 3.7mph walk assist mode helps when you are pushing the bike. Because it is built to EN 15194 and meets the UK EAPC regulations, it remains a pedal cycle in law rather than a moped, despite the moped styling.

Can I buy the Eskuta SX-250 through the Cycle to Work scheme?

Yes. As a certified EAPC the SX-250 qualifies for Cycle to Work, and Bike Yard Online accepts vouchers from the main UK schemes. Check which provider your employer is signed up to, request a certificate for the price of the kit and colour you want, and send it to us to redeem.

How long does delivery take, and does the bike arrive assembled?

Every SX-250 is built to order by Eskuta in Warwickshire. Allow around 7 working days for the build and typically 2 weeks from order to delivery. The bike arrives fully assembled, charged and pre-delivery inspected, and a technically trained Eskuta driver hands it over at your door with a walkthrough of the controls. Delivery is free to mainland UK addresses.

What warranty comes with the Eskuta SX-250, and can I extend it?

The SX-250 comes with Eskuta's 12 month manufacturer warranty, covering up to 8,000 km (4,971 miles). You can extend cover to 24 months with the Eskuta Extended Warranty, and an optional maintenance contract adds three scheduled services in the first year.

Who is the Eskuta SX-250 suitable for, and what size rider does it fit?

The SX-250 suits riders of roughly 5ft 7in to 6ft 2in (170 to 188cm), with an 860mm seat height and a maximum load of 120kg for rider and cargo combined. Self-adjusting suspension, front and rear disc brakes, full LED lighting and mirrors make it popular with commuters, delivery riders and anyone who wants moped style comfort without a licence.
